Reconstruction is moving forward. The City Department of Public Works removed the old pavers and wooden planters in early July. During the past couple of weeks EMI Earth Movers (of East Nassau) has installed the granite curbing and conduits for an irrigation system. The new brick pavers from Grimm of Troy Building Materials will be installed within the week (weather permitting).

Barker Park has the good fortune of being chosen as a Key Bank Neighbors Make The Difference® projects. On May 20th, Key Bank employees will participate in landscaping and cleaning the park. This is just one of many activities planned for the park this year.

Food and Film Festival
The Troy Community Food Cooperative and Troy Cinema and Visual Arts Group are sponsoring a Food and Film Festival in Troy, New York on Saturday, June 28 in Barker Park, from 1:00-5:00 p.m. The festival will continue at the Arts Center of the Capital Region, 265 River St., from 7:00-9:00 p.m., with a series of short films shot by local artists featuring FOOD from growth to consumption.

The Troy Food and Film Festival will be a family and interactive event that celebrates our many opportunities to eat seasonally, healthfully, pleasurably and sustainably.

Events at the Troy Food and Film Festival will include:

· Informational and interactive displays by organizations and businesses
· Cooking Demonstrations by guest chefs
· Live Music, Kid’s Activities, Great Food
· Original short films by local artists celebrating the joy of food


A Quick Note, we are gathering information regarding our success from the Brunch Fundraiser as well as information regarding grants we have received and/or applied for. Please stay tuned as we will post all necessary information as quickly as possible.

Bakerloo Theatre Project at Barker Park for Victorian Stroll

Reading the Holidays
Actors from Bakerloo Theatre Project will perform dramatic readings of seasonal poems and stories at Barker Park.

Each performance at Barker Park will be fifteen minutes long, beginning at noon, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm.

These events are free and appropriate for all ages.

The Friends of Barker Park invite you to an international brunch featuring Chef Larry Schepici of Tosca and guest chefs from around the world. Enjoy delicious foods prepared by well-known chefs, the delightful music of the Gene Usher Orchestra, and a special livebr of Barker Park into a comfortable, welcoming, safe and beautiful urban oasis for all to enjoy.

Barker Park Community Meeting
Thursday, August 23, 6-7:30 PM
St. Anthony's Church, State Street between Third and Fourth Streets

The Friends of Barker Park invite you to attend a community meeting on August 23rd at 6pm. The purpose of the meeting is to review plans for improvements to Barker Park and solicit feedback from community members. The Friends are particularly interested in getting feedback from residents and businesses surrounding the park, so please pass this along to others that might be interested.

Thanks to everyone who came out to State Street Friday in support of Troy Night Out. The Friends of Barker Park would like to thank the City of Troy, Rocky Velvet, and everyone who stopped by the Barker Park table. Bryan and Matt received a good amount of feedback that is being shared with all on the board. We are currently focused on holding a public forum in the coming weeks, so please stay tuned for updates.

Rocky Velvet To Rock Troy Night Out

Metroland Best Band Winners To Play Closed Down State Street in support of Barker Park

Fresh off being named Best Band in the Capital Region by Metroland, Rocky Velvet will rock the City of Troy this Friday night as part of Troy Night Out in support of the revitalization of Barker Park. The band is scheduled to take the stage at 7 p.m. Friday night on State Street between Third and Fourth Streets. As part of the performance, the Friends of Barker Park will unveil its plans for the redesign of the City park at the corner of Third and State Streets.

July 9, 2007
The city is lending some helping hands and has begun demolition on the Northwest corner of Barker Park. Our next steps involve the installation of decorative fencing on two corners of the Northwest triangle followed by the planting of 6- 8 trees along the eastern boundary of the park.
